Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo founded their company, Timbuktu Magazine in 2011 to provide the first digital magazine for girls. In the process of building their business they came to understand how important it is for girls to grow up surrounded by female role models. They know that it helps them to be more confident and set bigger goals. And yet they realized that 95% of the books and TV shows they grew up with, lacked girls in prominent positions, and upon further research discovered that this hasn't changed much in the years since, so they decided to do something about it.
